IDH, the Sustainable Trade Initiative, has been heavily investing to accelerate the sustainable production and trade of agricultural commodities produced in Asia, Africa and South America in the last 10 years. With funding from the Dutch, Swiss, Danish and Norwegian Governments, and from business partners, IDH organizes scoping, development and implementation of public private partnerships in 11 sectors such as palm oil, timber, coffee, tea, aquaculture, apparel and 16 landscapes across 12 countries. We are young, thriving, and dynamic organization to solve sustainability issues in commodity sector and sourcing areas.

The Governors’ Climate & Forests (GCF) Task Force is a subnational collaboration of 38 states and provinces working to protect tropical forests, reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, and promote realistic pathways to forest-maintaining rural development at jurisdiction level. It is a global platform for state and provincial governments to advance subnational policy innovation and leadership, engage and collaborate with public and private sector stakeholders at multiple levels, and establish pathways to effective national and international approaches to reducing deforestation while enhancing livelihoods. West Kalimantan Province, as one the GCF members, is implementing key activities to work towards the platform objectives. Through UNDP, IDH has been identified by the Province to support project implementation by facilitating Government’s efforts with Private Sectors interests and local community’s needs. We believe through this project we can broaden our outcomes in improvement of sector’s growth, together with a wide range of private and public partners, over 500 companies in 12 sectors and 12 landscapes in total 600 projects in 50 countries.


Monitoring Evaluation and Gender GCF-UNDP
this role is based in Pontianak, Indonesia


Position overview

Under the supervision and leadership of the West Kalimantan Province Government, the prospective Monitoring Evaluation and Gender position will manage IDH contribution to the GCF initiative in West Kalimantan, ensure effective delivery and play a significant role in ensuring the overall objectives of the initiative are met.

As a member of project management unit, the Monitoring Evaluation and Genderposition will contribute to the overall success of the team, engage effectively with team members, support their contributions to the GCF initiative, and contribute to the overall portfolio as needed.The position directly report to project manager with working scopes:

  • Responsibility for project monitoring and evaluation for progress tracking and reporting;
  • Responsibility for gender indicators development and ensuring that we will be able to monitor and measure the gender impact in the project.
  • This is a support role and will focus primarily on supporting Project Manager and Project Management Unit for GCF-Project in West Kalimantan, with main objectives:

    • Performance analysis on SRAP REDD+ 2012-2018 and GGP implementation towards carbon reduction target;
    • Strengthen the SRAP REDD+ task force and relevant platforms at sub-national level;
    • Initial phase of governance structure in financing mechanism scheme for REDD+ and green investment;
    • Sectoral regulatory framework in supporting SRAP REDD+ and GGP implementation developed.

    Job Description

    In the area of Monitoring and Evaluation:

    • Facilitate and substantively contribute to the incorporation of monitoring and reporting into project implementation and ensuring UNDP and IDH Result Measurement Framework standards are integrated in project activities;
    • Facilitate and substantively contribute to the development of monitoring indicators, monitoring calendars, and field monitoring plans and quality assurance processes of the project activities;
    • Include inputs from relevant monitoring findings, conclusions and recommendations into project reporting and planning of activities;
    • Contribute to work plans monitoring, reviews and project reporting;
    • Review progress and analytical reports submitted by project partners and provide feedback to improve quality and timeliness of reporting;
    • Provide guidance to Project Management Unit on monitoring and evaluations;
    • Identify relevant evaluation findings, conclusions and recommendations and input them into project planning, implementation and reporting.

    In the area of gender:

    • Develop a gender mainstreaming strategy and guidelines for the project implementation plan for the duration of the project in line with UNDP and IDH Gender tools and requirements;
    • Develop a monitoring tool for gender impact in all project activities including collecting the indicators information for assessing progress with gender mainstreaming, adapted to the project outcome, outputs and activities;
    • Undertake capacity building activities on gender analysis tools, including trainings of the project team, and other stakeholders in the justice sector on the use of guidelines to mainstreaming gender in the project activities;
    • Analyse the constraints affecting equal gender participation in the project sector and develop a plan to address the constraints within the mandate of the project.


    • A Minimum 5+ years of relevant working experience in Government and international organizations/settings;
    • Good experience in project monitoring and evaluation process and tools;
    • Good experience in gender issues and its indicators related to project implementation;
    • Knowledge of REDD+ and sustainability issue in the landscape and commodities sector;
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially a very good working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint;
    • Have extensive experience working in West Kalimantan;
    • Excellent spoken and written communication skills in Bahasa Indonesia and English.
